TBI Survivor: Sharon Stone

Once a star in such films as Basic Instinct and Casino, many of you may wonder why Sharon Stone seems to have almost vanished from leading roles on the big screen, and often cameoed on TV, during this millennium.  As it turns out, Stone suffered a stroke in 2001.  Though the vast majority (75 percent) of strokes are suffered by those 65+, that still means that 25 percent of strokes happen to those younger than that, including Stone, who was only 43 when her stroke occurred.  At home alone in San Francisco, her brain hemorrhaged and she fell to the floor.  News reports do not note her medical recovery from this brain injury, beyond the fact the she now has a neurologist.  Her personal recovery is discussed in detail and included such things as meditation and healthy eating.

Though her marriage was about to end prior to her stroke, she notes that her trauma has had the positive effect of allowing her to get closer to her children.  She now advocates for medical health, by speaking at such events as those hosted by the Women’s Health organization.  A list of her acting roles shows that her career now seems to have been revived.
